Guida-owned mare sets world mark in ItalySunday,

Italian trotters were in the spotlight Saturday (April 25) in Europe, as the 4-year-old mare, Lisa America, trotted to a new world record over 1-5/16-miles and the 5-year-old Igor Font won a Grand Circuit race, the Finlandia Ajo in Finland.
Lisa America – a 4- year old mare owned by Hall of Famer Lou Guida trough his Italian stable, Guida Italia, trotted a new world record of 1.54.21f (mile rate) for her age, winning the Gran Premio d’Europa at San Siro, Milan.
Andrea Guzzinati in the bike gave Lisa America a perfect pocket trip behind the favored Lana del Rio –- Both mares were sired by world champion Varenne.
Going into the stretch Guzzinati took Lisa America to the outside and went easy past the tiring favorite to win by two lengths. The victory was worth $165,000.
Lisa America has been a top trotter in her crop, and she has lifetime earnings of $600,000.
She has raced 22 times and had 12 races –- and her best time is the new and race record of 1.54.2f –- She lowered the old world and race record held by Igor Font by no less the 1.2 seconds! (was 1.55.4f).
Lisa America is trained by Jerry Riordan.
